Why We Love This Christmas Fruit Platter

  • Nutrient-rich: Although everything is good in moderation, the holidays are typically a time for over-indulging. This healthy holiday fruit tray is a nutritious way to celebrate the season at any Christmas party or holiday gathering. It’s packed with vitamin C, fibre and antioxidants!
  • Colorful: The best part is that the stunning colors in this Christmas fruit tray make it even more appealing! Kids are drawn in by colorful options and will gladly add some fresh fruit to their snack plates.
  • Quick & Easy: Since you’re mostly just arranging fresh fruits, this Christmas fruit wreath comes together really quickly! It’s even quick enough for a last minute event!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients for Christmas fruit wreath.
  • Kiwis: Peel and slice fresh kiwis to arrange as the base for this festive Christmas appetizer. Use green kiwis rather than golden ones for a more festive vibe.
  • Pomegranate arils: Pomegranate seeds add a nice crunch and sparkle to this tray. They’re like little ornaments, and they’re so sweet and juicy!
  • Fresh strawberries: You’ll use fresh strawberries to make a bow on this wreath. You might want to slice a few extra…kids love strawberries, and they tend to disappear quickly!

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Peel and slice the kiwis into ½ inch slices. Next, cut each of the kiwi slices in half.
  2. Get out a large plate. Overlap two the kiwi slice halves so that they’re slightly angled.
  3. Continue around the plate until a wreath shape has been formed (see pictures above).
  4. Evenly distribute the pomegranate arils around the wreath to act as decorations.
  5. For the bow, slice the stems off of the strawberries. Cut the strawberries in half lengthways. With one of the strawberries, cut one of the halves in half again lengthways.
  6. On the bottom of the kiwi wreath, arrange the two larger strawberries halves so that the smaller tips are facing each other like the top of a bow.
  7. Underneath, place the two strawberry quarters so that the thicker parts are touching the top of the bow. Cut a small square out of the edge of a kiwi slice and place in the middle of the bow. Serve immediately or store in the fridge for later.

RECIPE TIPS

  • The kiwi can be a bit slippery at times, so if transporting this fruit wreath to a get-together, be sure to hold onto it to prevent all of the ingredients from sliding around on the plate and use plastic wrap to keep everything covered. Another option is to prep the ingredients ahead of time and arrange it once you get there.
  • To make the prep even faster, purchase pomegranate arils that have already been removed from the pomegranate.
  • You can adapt the size of this wreath depending on the size of your plate or serving platter. I used a regular dinner plate that was 10 inches in size, but you can make it larger or smaller depending on what you have. You may have to adjust the quantity of fruit.
  • Take the time to wash and dry all your fruit on a clean tea towel before you cut them to size.
  • There are so many Christmas fruit ideas out there, and you can easily adapt the shape, size, or fruits in this recipe to fit your needs.
  • If you adapt this recipe and use other fruits that tend to turn brown like apples or pears, toss them in lemon juice first to keep them fresh.

Recipe FAQs

How do you make a Christmas fruit wreath?

Start by cleaning all of your fruit to remove any peels or pits. Slice your kiwis into 1/2 in slices, then cut the slices in half. Assemble them in a circular pattern in the shape of a wreath on your plate. Then, decorate the wreath with pomegranate seeds and create a bow using fresh strawberries. Feel free to add additional fruits to suit your kids’ preferences!

How big should I slice the fruit?

This is a great question, and it really depends on your audience. To make the wreath look like a wreath, it’s helpful to keep the pieces slightly larger. However, for little kids, they may need the slices somewhat smaller.

The easiest solution is to make the wreath as directed in this post. When you serve your kids, you can cut the fruit into small bites for babies or serve the larger pieces with skewers to make them easier for older babies and toddlers to eat.

Which fruits are in season during Christmas?

If you want to add more seasonal fruits to your holiday table, these fruits would be perfect for your holiday spread!

*Kiwis
*Clementines
*Pineapple

Storage Guidelines

  • Since this wreath is made exclusively of fresh fruit, it’s best served right away. You can prepare it up to a day ahead of time, but slice the strawberries just before you serve them to keep them fresh.

Recipe Variations

  • Add more fruits: Although my family loves this fruit Christmas wreath as is, you can add any kind of fruit to suit your family’s preferences! Green grapes, raspberries, blueberries, melon balls, pineapple stars, and even a few mint leaves would work great on this snack.
  • Serve a creamy dip. This fruit wreath is delicious on its own, but if your kids love to dip, you can sweeten Greek yogurt with some honey or maple syrup and vanilla extract and place the bowl in the middle of the wreath!
  • Make a fruit Christmas tree. Arrange the fresh fruit in any shape you’d like! A Christmas tree would look wonderful on a large serving platter. You could even add a garland of berries!
