Why We Love This Flower Snack

  • So easy to make: Basically, you add some peanut butter to a cracker to serve as glue for the fresh fruit. Then, arrange the fresh fruit like a flower. It’s really that easy! They’re a fun alternative to plain crackers on an Easter charcuterie board or cheese tray.
  • Cute and cheerful: The bright and colorful edible flowers are so eye-catching and are the perfect way to incorporate a variety of fruit. They’d be great in a lunch box as a healthy snack or served on a tray with an assortment of other flower snack crackers.
  • Great for kids: I assembled these colorful cracker designs specifically for kids, who are drawn in by the bright colors and fruity flavors. You can even lay out the ingredients in dishes and have them make their own fruit flowers as a fun and healthy snack. Plus, they’ll be more likely to try it out if they created it themselves!

Ingredient Notes

Individually portioned ingredients for the flower crackers.
  • Large circle crackers: I use whole-grain Breton crackers. Make sure whichever crackers you choose are large enough to add a design.
  • Peanut butter: This acts as a glue to adhere the fruit to the cracker. Feel free to use any type of nut butter or even seed butter.
  • Fresh fruits: You can use a variety of fruits for this project, but berries are especially great! Look for strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries. Green grapes are a must for the leaves, and they look great as the center of the flower, too. You can also use kiwis, oranges, pineapples, and more!
  • Pretzel sticks: These resemble the stem of the flower. You can easily serve the flowers without the stem if you are adding them to a charcuterie board or lunch box.

RECIPE TIPS

  • These fruit designs are just some ideas. Feel free to switch up your flower designs depending on the fruit you have available.
  • If serving these crackers to children under the age of 5, quarter the grapes lengthways before arranging on the crackers (or before serving) to minimize risk of choking.
  • These flower crackers are best served fresh since the moisture from the fruit can soften the crackers if left to sit for too long.

Recipe FAQs

Can you make flower crackers ahead of time?

Technically, yes, but the moisture from the fruit will start to soften the crackers pretty quickly. It does help to add the peanut butter to block the moisture, but you’ll want to serve the crackers pretty soon after making them.

Which fruits are best for fruit flowers?

Personally, I like green grapes and berries, which are naturally round. This makes them easy to arrange on the crackers for the flower details. However, you can really use any type of fresh fruit you’d like!

Which crackers are best for this flower snack?

I recommend using a whole-grain cracker to add extra fiber and look for one with a neutral flavor. Onion crackers and fresh fruits won’t taste that great together! I like to use the original Breton crackers because they have the perfect size and shape and are made with whole wheat flour.

Storage Guidelines

  • For best results, serve the flower crackers right after decorating. Otherwise, the moisture from the fruits will saturate the crackers and make them soggy.

Serving Suggestions

There are so many ways to serve these flower crackers! I like to add them to my Easter bunny charcuterie board for a pop of spring fun. They’re also a nice appetizer or midday snack!

The flower theme is great for Easter holiday gatherings, but you can easily serve them for Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, or any other special occasion.

Recipe Variations

  • Make them savory: For a savory cracker, add cream cheese instead of peanut butter and decorate with olives, tomatoes, and other fresh veggies instead of fruits. You can even add little rounds of pepperoni or smoked salmon! Use whatever your kids will enjoy the most.
  • Use cookies: They won’t be flower crackers anymore, but you can easily replace the crackers with your favorite sugar cookies instead. I would recommend using a naturally sweetened cookie dough, like these Easter egg fruit pizzas. You can even use a graham cracker for a slightly sweeter treat!
  • Change the topping: The peanut butter blends in with the cracker and adds some healthy fats and protein, but you could also use cream cheese or even a bit of homemade berry chia jam as the glue instead.
  • Use toast: Instead of crackers, toast a small circle of bread for a quick snack or breakfast. You can also add the flower decoration to your favorite French toast recipe, too!
