Why We Love These Air Fryer Mini Pizzas

  • From scratch: Unlike storebought crusts or frozen pizzas, these homemade mini pizzas are made completely from scratch! That means you can control the sugar, salt, flavorings, and preservatives to ensure they’re a nutritious option for your family.
  • Quick & easy: Since the pizza crust is made from yogurt dough, this pizza comes together incredibly fast. And you don’t even have to heat your oven!
  • Customizable: Just like regular pizza, everyone in your family can decorate their own pizza with their favorite pizza toppings. As a bonus, you can cook them up in the oven if you don’t own an air fryer!

Ingredient Notes

Ingredients required to make healthy mini pizzas in air fryer or oven.

For the homemade pizza dough:

  • Whole wheat flour: I recommend using white whole wheat flour for extra fibre without the whole wheat flavor. All-purpose flour can be used as well if preferred.
  • Baking powder: This will help your homemade dough to get a good rise, similar to a biscuit dough.
  • Salt: This will activate the baking powder and make your dough more flavorful.
  • Greek yogurt: This is the secret ingredient. Greek yogurt adds moisture, density and a mild tangy flavor, making this pizza dough so scrumptious!

For the mini pizzas:

  • Pizza sauce: Use storebought marinara sauce or this homemade low sodium pizza sauce recipe.
  • Shredded cheese: The standard option is shredded mozzarella cheese, which melts into an ooey-gooey texture, but you can use whatever cheese you have on hand.
  • Toppings: Gather a variety of toppings to make a pizza decorating bar!

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl. Add the Greek yogurt and mix until it becomes crumbly in texture.
  2. Use your hands to knead the dough for a few minutes until it starts to come together into a ball. If it still feels too dry, add 1 tablespoon of additional Greek yogurt at a time until the dough resembles a pizza dough consistency.
  3. Sprinkle a little flour on a flat surface and roll the dough until flat. I like to roll it out to about ¼ inch thickness for these mini pizzas, but you can roll it out to your desired thickness.
  4. Use a circular cookie cutter or circular object such as a wide glass or mason jar lid to cut out small circles from the dough. Place the dough circles on a parchment paper-lined pan.
  5. Spread a small amount of pizza sauce on each dough circle until evenly covered.
  6. Add any optional toppings. Sprinkle cheese on top of the sauce and toppings on each dough circle.

How to Make Mini Pizzas in Air Fryer

  1. Brush the air fryer basket or tray lightly with olive oil and place dough circles on the basket.
  2. Air fry at 375° F for 5-7 minutes, or until cheese is golden brown and crust is slightly crispy. You may need to work in batches, depending on the size of your air fryer. Remove and let cool for 5 minutes before serving.

How to Make Mini Pizzas in Oven

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. Bake for 15-17 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the crust gets slightly brown and crispy. The mini pizzas will puff up slightly while baking and deflate once cooled.

TIPS FOR THE BEST MINI PIZZAS

  • The number of mini pizzas this recipe makes will depend on how thin you roll the dough and the size of your cutter. I rolled mine about 1/4 inch thick and got about 12-14 4-inch mini pizzas.
  • If you don’t have whole wheat or white whole wheat flour on hand, you can also use all-purpose or self-rising flour. Just skip the baking powder and salt if you sub in self-rising flour instead.
  • You can also freeze the pizza dough circles ahead of time and then simply add the toppings and cook when ready to serve. You may need to add a few extra minutes to the cooking time if cooking from a frozen state.
  • To make these mini pizzas even more fun, you can cut the dough into fun shapes using cookie cutters before adding the toppings. Try heart, star or teddy bear pizzas!

Recipe FAQs

How to cook a small pizza in the air fryer?

The secret to the perfect air fryer pizza is to get the temperature right. You want to set your air fryer at 375 degrees F for a crispy crust. Let the air fryer preheat before adding your personal pizzas to the air fryer tray.

Spray the tray with cooking spray or place your pizza bases on a piece of parchment paper or air fryer paper liner and add it directly to the air fryer basket. This makes it easier to lift out and serve, too! You only need to cook these small pizzas for about 5-7 minutes or until the top of the pizza is golden brown and bubbly.

How can you cook multiple mini pizzas at the same time?

If you are hosting a party or trying to make a bunch of mini pizzas at once, you might realize your air fryer isn’t quite big enough for this air fryer pizza recipe. In that situation, set your conventional oven to 400 degrees F. They’ll need longer to bake (approximately 15-17 minutes), but you can fill several sheet trays with pizzas at once.

What temperature to preheat an air fryer for homemade pizza?

To make homemade pizza from scratch, set your air fryer to 375 degrees F and let it preheat for at least 5 minutes before adding your pizzas.

Storage Guidelines

  • To refrigerate: Store leftover pizzas in an airtight container in the fridge or wrap each mini pizza in plastic wrap. You can keep them in the fridge for up to 4 days.
  • To freeze: You can also freeze your pizzas for up to 2 months and thaw them in the fridge for a few hours before reheating and serving!
  • To reheat: Pop your pizzas into a preheated air fryer set to 375 degrees F for about 5 minutes or microwave for 1 minute.
