Heart Shaped Charcuterie Board

This Valentine’s Day charcuterie board for kids is so much fun! It technically doesn’t contain any cured meats like most charcuterie boards, but it’s a wonderful fruit and cheese board with some of your little one’s favorite snacks.

You just need a heart-shaped charcuterie board, plate, or tray and a variety of pink, red, and heart-shaped snacks to take it over the top.

Why We Love This Valentines Breakfast Board

  • Perfect for Valentine’s Day: The reds, pinks, and heart-shaped snacks make it clear this kid-friendly charcuterie board is all about celebrating love! You just need a couple of heart-shaped cookie cutters and some pink and red treats. It’s also a great way to serve up some healthy, satisfying foods before they eat any chocolates or candy hearts later on!
  • Interactive: The kids can all take turns picking different items off the board and putting them on their plates. It’s almost like a buffet-style breakfast or snack! You can even get them involved in choosing and arranging the items on the snack board. My kids love to brainstorm about what we could put on our board next!
  • Encourages more adventurous eating: When you arrange food in a fun and creative way, kids will be more eager to try new things. You don’t have to go all Pinterest if you’re short on time; just keep it simple!

Ingredient Notes

A birds-eye view of the ingredients for the charcuterie board with heart-shaped snacks.
  • Whole wheat bread: Any type of sandwich bread will work well here.
  • Natural peanut butter: Look for one with no salt or sugar added.
  • Chia jam: I like to make this mixed berry chia jam or strawberry chia jam, but storebought jam works well too. The Healthy Crunch has some great low sugar options!
  • Strawberry yogurt melts: You can use homemade or store-bought yogurt melts. I used these pink Gerber Strawberry Banana Yogurt Melts.
  • Superfood hearts: I used lentil based cereal hearts from Gerber but these Superfood hearts would work well too!
  • Baby bel cheeses: Try to look for the variety with the red wax case to fit the color theme.
  • Greek yogurt: Plain or low-sugar flavored varieties are best.
  • Raspberries: You could even stuff the raspberries with dark chocolate chips for a fun twist!
  • Strawberries: Look for ripe strawberries free of blemishes.
  • Honeydew or cantaloupe: Look for fruit that is ripe, yet still firm so that you can cut out the hearts without them getting mushy.

You’ll also want a heart-shaped board and several different heart-shaped cookie cutters in different sizes.

RECIPE TIPS

  • The quantities provided are just rough estimates. You can add more or less of each item, or add your own ideas depending on how many people you’re serving.
  • This board works great for breakfast, snacks or lunch! You could always add in some veggies like heart shaped cucumbers instead of the honey melon hearts or add your own creative spin.
  • If you don’t have a heart-shaped board, try arranging your snacks into a heart- shape on a regular wooden cutting board.

Recipe FAQs

How do you make a Valentine’s Day snack board for kids?

There are a few options! The secret is to start with a heart-shaped board, plate, or tray. Then, add some fresh fruits. I like to use pink or red fruit for that classic Valentine’s Day look!

Use your heart-shaped cookie cutters to cut other fruits, sandwiches, or snacks into little hearts, then sprinkle in other pink or heart-shaped treats. You can easily tweak it to incorporate more breakfast foods (waffles, pancakes, muffins, etc) or add more sweet treats for a dessert tray. There are so many options!

Can you make this board ahead of time?

Yes! You can easily make this board the night before and bring it out the next day. If you cut the fruits too soon, they’ll start to soften and become mushy in the fridge. To keep it from drying out, wrap it well with plastic wrap then remove it right before serving.

Where did you get your heart shaped charcuterie board?

I got my bamboo board on Amazon here. I love how it comes with cute little heart shaped bowls and charcuterie board accessories to add to the theme. That being said, any heart-shaped cutting board, plate, or empty heart-shaped candy box would work too.

Storage Guidelines

  • With the sliced fruits and dairy, it’s important to only let this charcuterie board sit out for about 2 hours.
  • After that, store any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge. The shelf-stable items like yogurt melts and superfood hearts can be stored at room temperature.

  • Incorporate some pink beverages: Serve with this strawberry banana smoothie without yogurt or no sugar added strawberry banana YOP!
  • Use heart-shaped containers: Add some heart-shaped dishes to play up the theme without having to cut or carve anything!
  • Make mini boards: Grab some heart-shaped plates to make mini boards. These are a great way to make any meal a little more exciting!
